PPE requirements

MODULE 5 OF 9 · CC-WHS-PRO-CIP-018 V2.0

Personal protective equipment is your last line of defence against live traffic. It only works if it's worn correctly, every shift, no exceptions.

No PPE, no work. If your PPE is missing, damaged or non-compliant you must not start the shift — replace it first and tell your supervisor.
Hi-vis long sleeveClass D/N daylight-and-night garment, AS/NZS 4602.1, clean with retro-reflective striping intact.
Hi-vis long pantsFull-length. Shorts and dark clothing obscure your silhouette against traffic.
Steel-cap bootsSafety footwear to AS/NZS 2210. Lace-up, in good repair, worn done up.
Safety glassesWorn when task or site conditions require eye protection.
Task glovesCut-resistant or general duty as the task demands — carrying signs, cones, steel plate.
Hard hatWhere required by the site or the TGS — crane operations, overhead work, plant interaction.
Prohibited on site: thongs or sandals, non-safety runners, hoodies worn over hi-vis, earbuds or headphones near live traffic, and any dark layer that covers your retro-reflective striping.

Knowledge check

2 questions · every answer correct to unlock the next module · options shuffle, 3 attempts per module

1 · You notice a tear in your hi-vis shirt sleeve, with a dark long-sleeve underneath. What do you do?

CKeep working — the tear is small and visibility is mostly fine
AReplace the damaged hi-vis before starting work — no PPE, no work
BCover it with a hoodie, it's cold anyway
Correct — damaged hi-vis compromises your visibility to traffic. Swap it before you start. Options reshuffle every attempt, so learn the rule, not the letter.

2 · Which of these is permitted while controlling traffic with a STOP/SLOW bat?

AOne earbud, kept at low volume
CNothing in your ears — full attention on the traffic
BPhone in one hand, bat in the other
